Nem Sokhuoch is a 13-year-old in fourth grade at the Hiroko Okuma School.  She was ranked first among her 24 classmates.  She has four sisters and three brothers. Her father is a teacher and her mother is a housewife and farmer.  Two of her young brothers are studying in first grade at the school. Her house is about 300 meters from the school. She walks to school every day.

On school subjects “In class, I am good at Khmer and it is my favorite subject.  I like Khmer class because there are a lot of stories to read.  I hate the Applied Sciences.  I try to study hard in that class, but I don’t know why I cannot remember it.”

On her hobbies: “I like running and playing the jumping game.”

On her hopes: “Since I was born I have been to Phnom Penh about five times and I have never been in any other places.  I would like to go to Britain because I would like to study English and I could practice speaking with people there.”

On her future: “When I grow up I want to be a teacher like my father.  I want children to get knowledge.”
