(November, 2001)

Chun Puth is a 12-year-old third grade student at the Kampong Sre Nippon Foundation School.  He was ranked eight among the 16 students in his class last year.  His parents are farmers and his younger sister goes to school with him.

In Their Own Words. . .

On the new building: “I like the new building because it looks nicer than the old one and has enough tables for all of the students to sit.”

On school subjects:  “I like Khmer class best, because I want to learn how to read.  I don’t like social science because I do not understand the lessons well.”

On his free time: “I carry water for us to use and chop our firewood.  I like to go fishing in the river with my friends.”

On his future: “I plan to graduate from primary school and continue studying after that.  My parents also want me to go to high school, but only if they have enough money.”

If I could go anywhere…:  “I would organize a festival because that way I can receive merit.”
