Foundation School

(November, 2001)

Yim Srey Oun is a 13-year-old third grade student at the Kampong Sre Nippon Foundation School.  She was ranked first among the 16 students in her class last year.  Her father is a potter and mason, specializing in large clay water jars, and her mother is a housewife.  All of her seven brothers and sisters are no longer going to school.

In Their Own Words. . .

On the new building: “I like the new building because it is very nice.  There are no holes in the roof, and it is easy to study during lessons.”

On her free time: “I carry water from the well to home to fill our water jars, cook and chop firewood.  I like to play hide-and-seek with my friends.”

On her future: “I plan to graduate from primary school and then secondary school and then high school.  My parents want me to finish high school because they want me to get more understanding.”
