On herself
I am thirty-five years old and have three children. Two of them are studying at this school in the second grade. My husband works for the Cambodian Mine Action Center, a non-governmental organization dedicated to mine-clearance in Cambodia. My husband is originally from this village, and I moved in here with him in 1997.We own some farmland, but we ourselves do not farm but lease it for five bags of rice a year. I have been a teacher since 1990, and became a deputy director two years ago. As a director I have to take some of the responsibility for administrative work while being a teacher as before. At the moment I teach the first grade.

On the new building:
Before the new school came, I had taught in an old wooden building built in 1993. When I was teaching there, I always got anxious that the old roof or walls might fall down whenever it was windy. Rain was also a problem because it would leak through the roof. Now that we have this new building, we’re no longer bothered by wind or rain, and the students can study comfortably. The students are very happy studying at this new schools building. |
