Mr. Bour Rath is the sixth grade teacher at the Kimiko Morisaki School No. One. His home is one kilometer from the school.
In Their Own Words. . .
| on the new building: | “I am happy with the new building because (with separate class rooms) we don’t disturb other classes and there is no need to speak loudly.”

| on his past: | “I am 23 years old. I have been teaching at this school for three years. After high school, I went to Phnom Penh to find work, but I couldn’t find any. So, I returned to Banteay Meanchey and became a teacher.”

| on school subjects: | “It is difficult to teach social science without materials. My students like to learn mathematics because they think mathematics is more important than other subjects. I also like to teach mathematics because it is practical and the students will be able to use it. I like to teach all the subjects because it is important for the kids to know them all.”

| on his teaching style: | “I try to give good advice to the students and raise examples from the lives of famous people.”

| on the future of Cambodia: | “At times, I think the future of Cambodia is hopeless because I think the Cambodian leaders cannot help Cambodia.”

| on the difficulties and joys of his job: | “It is difficult to work without an office, and the school has no library. My low salary makes it difficult to support my family. The best part of my job is that I help Cambodians, because I want to help them become good leaders. All of the teachers work well together because we know the importance of knowledge for our students.” |
