The Kork Srok Nippon

Foundation School

Chea Cheat is a fourth grade student at the Kork Srok Nippon Foundation School.
Out of the thirty students in his class, he was ranked second.

On himself: I am fourteen years old. I have three siblings. One sister studies in the first grade. We both started school together this year. My parents are both farmers. My father goes to the field every day, while my mother stay at home. They grow rice, soy beans, potatoes, and sesame.

On the new building: I am very happy with the new school because the building is new. It has new desks, new benches, and new windows. The old school was located in a pagoda. It was made of wood, and only had four rooms. It was very difficult to study at the old school. The desks were rotting, and there were not enough of them for all the students. The walls were covered with palm leaves, and so the rain would disturb the class by coming in through the walls.

Favorite subject: I like Khmer the most. My favorite story is called “The Fortune Bird” (It screams very much). It’s a story about animals that have four legs.

On his spare time: I help my parents plant rice, potatoes, and soy beans. I also do my homework. When I play with my friends, I like playing hide-and-seek and dodge ball.

In the future: I would like to be a teacher and teach small children.
