The Kork Srok Nippon

Foundation School

Mr. So Saret is the director of the Kork Srok Nippon Foundation School.

On himself: I am forty-four years old, and have six children. One of my daughters is studying in third grade. Our house is one kilometer away from the school. Both my wife and I farm. My wife also sells cement and alcohol out of our home. I’ve been a teacher since March 12th, 1984. In July 1984, I was made director. Altogether, I have had six schools under my supervision. I don’t teach myself, but I always come to school.

On the new building: I am very happy with the new school that [Nippon Foundation] donated. I want to give extreme thanks to the donor. In the past, there was no school for the children. Classes would be held at village houses or in pagodas. The old location of the school was in a pagoda. Now, the land the school was built on belongs to the school. Before it belonged to the village. When the new school was donated, I chose a location for the school, and the villagers, in their kindness, were happy to provide. They knew that the children here lack education. If the donor was going to provide a school for them, they would hold a meeting to provide the land. Before the new school was built, we didn’t have a lot of students. Now, six out of the twelve classes are in the first grade alone.
