Keo Sophar is a 15-year old 5th grade student at the new school. She is currently ranked number 1 among her 52 classmates the first semester of this year. She has two sisters and two brothers. Her father is a commune chief in Preah Vihear province and her mother is a housewife. Now she lives with her grandparents in the school village while her parents and her siblings live in another village in Preah Vihear. Her house is nearby and she walks to school every day.

“At school, I like to study social studies, a subject that needs a lot of recitation, and I am weakest in math. I just don’t understand the teacher in this subject.”

“I study very hard because I want to be a teacher when I grow up. When I reach my goals of becoming a teacher, I intend to teach the children in my home village in Preah Vihear province because there is a tremendous lack of teachers and the children are hungry for knowledge.”
