Chhuon Sarem, a 4th grade student at the O Tapong Nippon Foundation School.

Chhuon Sarem is a 4th grade student at the O Tapong Nippon Foundation School. He is currently ranked number 2 among his 42 classmates the first semester of this year. He has five brothers and one sister. His parents are farmers in the village.

“At school, I like studying Khmer literature because it helps me read magazines or the newspaper, but I am weak in math.”

“I attend classes in the morning and help my parents in the afternoon by climbing palm trees and collecting palm juice. My family has more than twenty palm trees, but we started with just two trees and gradually increased the number to what it is today. Two palm trees can turn out about 1.5 kilos of palm juice a day.”
