The Phnom Rey Nippon

Foundation School

Mrs. Tes Vibol, standing underneath the Khmer signboard, is a teacher at the Phnom Rey Nippon Foundation School.
The signboard reads: “Donated by Nippon Foundation and The Social Fund of the Kingdom of Cambodia 2002”

On himself:

I am 29 years old. I have one son. My husband is a farmer. I have been a teacher for eight years, and have taught only in this area. I teach the second grade. My house is right opposite the school.

On the new building:

Since the new school was completed, all the students are willing to come and study. They come to school every day. And when I’m teaching, the students always pay attention to me. This is very different from the way it used to be at the old school. The old school was 700 meters from here. It was made of wood and had a thatched roof. At that place, the students never seemed to concentrate during class. When the sun was shining, the classroom would get very hot, and when it was raining, the rain would come into the class and disturb the lesson. So it was hard for the students to enjoy coming to school then.
