Foundation School

Mom Channy is a 13-year-old fifth grader at the Ro Bas Raing Nippon Foundation School.
She was ranked sixth among her 49 classmates.

On herself:

I have three siblings, and one of the brothers studies with me at school. My parents are both farmers. They also rear such animals as pigs, chickens, and ducks. Our house is just down the road from here.

On the new building:

I am very happy with it. The building is not leaning to one side and so I don’t have to worry about when it would collapse. I was a bit afraid when I had to study in the old school. It was leaning because the wood was rotting. Some of the planks occasionally fell down, while others remained in place. The rain would splash into the classroom since the walls had many missing planks. And the roof would leak.

On her spare time:

Sometimes I do my homework. Other times I help my parents with their work at home. I take care of my siblings and feed the pigs.

If she could make any wish:

I wish I were a doctor, because then I could help people.

If she could travel anywhere I would want to travel in Cambodia and see significant cultural sights I have never seen yet,  such as Angkor Wat.
