The Cambodia Rural School Project

The Prey Svay Nippon

Foundation School

Mr. Meas Hem is the community chief in the village where the Prey Svay Nippon Foundation School is located.
He is 55 years old

On himself:

I have three sons and two daughters. Two of my grandchildren are studying at this school, a boy and a girl. I serve as the community chief and also as the deputy village chief. My wife and I are both farmers. I’ve lived here in this village since 1961.

On the new building:

I am very happy that this school was donated to us. First of all, the children can come and study regularly, without interruptions from the weather. Second of all, this school is safe; it’s strong and in good condition. It will ensure that nothing happens to the students while they’re studying. Nobody has to worry about the school collapsing anymore. The old school was left over from the Pol Pot regime. It wasn’t able to keep the rain out. We finally tore it down because we were afraid it would collapse on top of somebody. When the new school was being built, the citizens [sic.] around here participated in leveling the ground, and they built the fence around the school. We are all very happy. All we need now are more teachers for all the new students.
