(October, 2001)

Yourng Pity is an 11-year-old second grade student at the Rokar Thom Nippon Foundation School.  She was ranked fourth in her class of 28 at the end of last year.  Her parents are farmers and she is the youngest of five children.

In Their Own Words. . .

On the new building:  “I like the new building because it has enough tables for all of us to sit.  It also has windows to let in fresh air.  This building is much nicer than the old one.”

On school subjects:  “I like learning Khmer because it is easier to learn than other subjects.  I don’t like applied science because I don’t understand it.”

On her free time:  “My chores are to cook, clean, and wash clothes for my family.  I like to play lot ampos, a jumping game, with my friends when I see them.”

On her future: “I want to become a teacher when I am older.  My parents want me to go to school, and so do I.”

If I could go anywhere…:  “I would go to Phnom Penh because I have heard that it is happy and a big city.”
