The Samdech Ta Nippon

Foundation School

Thon Srey Touch is a fifth grader at the Samdech Ta Nippon Foundation School.
In her class of twenty-four, she was ranked first.

On herself: I am fourteen years old. I have eight siblings. One of my brothers and one of my sisters are in school with me, both studying in the third grade. My parents are both farmers. They grow mango, jackfruit, and coconuts. I live about two kilometres away from the school. It takes me about an hour to walk there. I make that walk twice every day.

On the new building: I am very glad to have a new school building. I really enjoy studying there. I wasn’t as enthusiastic about school before. At the old school, there was not enough space for everyone, so we had fewer classes. Sometimes they would combine classes, such as grade one and two, and teach them at the same time. I like going to school now because of the new building. The teachers we have now are also better educated.

In her spare time: I help my parents with their work at home. I cut the grass around the house, and plant crops.

On her future: I would like to work in a factory. You make money, and the work is easy.

If she could do anything: I’m not sure. Now I’m studying. When I’m done studying, I’ll think about what to do.
