(October, 2001)

Kun Veasna is an 11-year-old third grade student at the Samlot Nippon Foundation School.  He has one younger sister and one older sister.  His older sister stopped studying after fifth grade to get married.   His younger sister is still in school.  His father is a teacher and his mother is a farmer.

In Their Own Words. . .

On the new school building: “I like the new building because it is easy to study in.”

On school subjects: “I like learning Khmer because this subject is very easy for me.  I don’t like mathematics because I don’t understand it very well.”

On his free time: “At home, I like to cook and wash the plates.  I also like to study.”

On his future:  “I want to graduate from high school because I want to be educated.  My parents want me to as well.  My father finished high school and my mother finished tenth grade.  I want to be a policeman so that I can catch thieves.”

If I could do anything…: “I would build schools so that all kids can study.”
