The Snourl Treit Nippon

Foundation School

Mrs. Pich Vanna is a farmer near the Snourl Treit Nippon Foundation School.

On herself: I am thirty-two years old and have four children. I have a daughter in the first grade. I live 300 meters away from the school. Our farmland is too small for us to grow enough rice to feed ourselves. The land was allotted to us by the District Chief, so there’s nothing we could do about the size. To make extra money, I go to work for other people when they need help. Most recently, I was hired to dig and carry dirt to a construction site nearby, in order to level off the land.

On the new building:

It makes me happy to see the new building, and to know that my daughter is studying in it. Before the new school was built, my daughter didn’t go to school. She is eight years old now, and just started studying in 2002. The old building was made of wood and covered with thatch. It used to have problems with the rain.
