The Cambodia Rural School Project

The Snourl Treit Nippon

Foundation School

Sar Vanna is a third grade student at the Snourl Treit Nippon Foundation School.
Out of the forty students in her class, she was ranked first.

On herself:

I am thirteen years old and have four siblings. I have a sister in second grade. My parents are farmers. We live right by the school.

On the new building:

I am happy with the new school. I try to go to school every day. It is easier to study there than at the old school. It was difficult before because I couldn’t concentrate when it was raining.

Favorite subject:

I like Khmer.

On her spare time:

I do homework or help my parents cook rice and carry water. Right now my mother is in the hospital, so I need to help more. When I don’t work, I like playing jump rope and hide-and-seek.

In the future:

When I grow up, I would like to be a teacher. Now why do I want to be a teacher? Well, I just want to teach.

If she could do anything:

I would like to be a nurse, because nurses give injections.

If she could travel anywhere

I would like to go to my homeland Battambang. We moved from there five years ago, and go back only once a year.
