The Tatsuo Maruyama School

(August, 2001)

Mr. Kong Thekun is the deputy director of the Tatsuo Maruyama School.  He has been a teacher for 19 years and a deputy director for five.

In Their Own Words. . .

On the new building: “The students didn’t like the old building because the tables and windows were all broken and the roof leaked.  The parents didn’t like to send their children there because they were afraid that the building would collapse.  The new building is safe and the students are interested in coming here.  The parents encourage their children to come here as well.”

On his family: “I am married with five children.  Two of my children are also my students.  I don’t really like teaching them, because they don’t listen to me while the other students do.  They think they can learn from me later, at home.”
