Foundation School

Sao Pros is the director of the Thnal Bombek Nippon Foundation School.

On himself: I am twenty-eight years old. I graduated teacher college in 2001. I have been the director here ever since. I have a wife and a three-year old son. My wife sells school supplies and some food products out of our house. Our house is thirteen kilometers away from the school. It takes about twenty minutes to get there by moto-dop (moped taxi).

On the new building: I am very pleased to be working at the Thnal Bombek Nippon Foundation School. It is very well made. The building is made of concrete for strength, and constructed parallel to the axis of the sun to keep it cooler. The students are also very happy about the new building. Overall, the school environment is better. Teachers are punctual, and we decorate with flowers. We’ve built goals for soccer, and a volleyball court.

Why flowers: If we make the school a nicer place, I think people will care for it more. If they appreciate going to school, students will learn more.

On the old building: The old building had walls made of bark and a thatched roof. The classrooms were much smaller, and we had problems with the rain. We didn’t even have enough school supplies.

On motivation: The students here are great. They always listen to their teachers. They’re not lazy when work needs to be done. Even when their families are poor, they still come to school. To motivate students for the final exams, we give the top five students a notebook, a pencil, and a ruler each.
