Build a rural school or adopt an existing school and enhance it with computer training, English lessons, vegetable gardens and more! Give children of the rural poor areas of Cambodia opportunities for a better education and brighter life.

Li Sokkoung, a teacher at The Shintoshin Rotary and Speros (Hawaii) School (Feb. 2000)

Li Sokkoung is the sixth grade teacher at The The Shintoshin Rotary and Speros (Hawaii) School. He is 22 years old and is single. He has always lived in the village of Rik Reay, and started teaching at the school in January of 1999.
He lives with mother, who works as a farmer. His father was killed by the Khmer Rouge.

“I like teaching. I want to provide knowledge to the students in this area.”

on his favorite subject to teach: “I like to teach all subjects.”
new school vs. old school: “I like the new school building because it is comfortable for the students. The old building was very difficult to work in. The walls were open to the outside, and the roof would leak water when it rained.”
on keeping students interested in class: “I always draw pictures to help my students understand clearly the subjects. When they understand clearly, they want to learn more.”
on special activities: “Saturday afternoons, the children will sing songs and dance according to the lesson.”
on the future of his students: “In the future, I hope my kids will have more knowledge and pass onto to higher education.”
