Mr. Kong Simay is the 54-year-old director of the Tokyo West Rotary Club School.  He has been a school director for one year and was the deputy before his superior was transferred to another school in the same district.  He has two sons and one daughter, all of whom attend the school.

In Their Own Words. . .

On the new building: “I like the new building because it is in good condition and very secure, so we can keep our teaching materials there.  The old building was old and had no walls, so we could not store things there.  Compared to that, this building is very nice.”“The new building is the best thing for the village, because it increases the chances for education for the people here, and I think they can learn from this school and continue to other countries around the world.”

On teaching: “I have been a teacher since 1981 and I like being a teacher very much.  I like it because there is a lack of educated people here, so I want to do my part and help.”

On having his children in school:  “I like having my children at this school because I am here to supervise and take care of them.  I also teach them at home.”

On school subjects: “I like teaching mathematics, because I have liked it since I was young.  I don’t like teaching Khmer because I think this subject is too easy.  The students like learning all subjects because they know only the fields, and so they are eager to learn anything they can.”

On the school community: “The school community is very happy because there has been an increase in pupils this year.  They are trying to build a garden, swing set, or soccer and volleyball field to improve the school.”

Message for the donor: “I would like to thank the Tokyo West Rotary Club and I wish its members success in the future.  I will not forget the name of this group.”
