Sou Sopheun is a 12-year-old fourth grade student at the Tokyo West Rotary Club School.  He has one older and one younger brother, and three younger sisters.  His parents are farmers, and he lives about 500 m from the school.

In Their Own Words. . .

On the new building: “We used to study under the shade of trees.  Now we have a nice new school building.  I like it.”

On school subjects: “I like learning Khmer because I want to know how to read and write.  I don’t like learning applied science because it’s difficult.”

On his hobbies: “My chore is to take care of the family cows.  With the other students, we also clean out the classroom.”

On his future: “I want to graduate from high school because I want to get a good job.  My parents also want me to study.  My parents can read, but I don’t know if they ever went to school.  I want to be a teacher in the future, or do something else to help my country develop.”
