(August, 2001)

Toeu Sopha is a 12-year-old third grade student at the Trabek Nippon Foundation School.  She was ranked third among her 23 classmates at the end of last year.  Her parents are farmers and two of her three siblings are also at the school.

In Their Own Words . . .

On going to school with her siblings: “I like going to school with my younger brother and sister because I can look after them and make sure that they are studying.”

On her future: “I want to go to high school because I want to continue in school.  My parents think it is important for me to go to high school as well.  I want to become a teacher or nurse when I grow up, because I can help the people living in my village that way.”

On her free time: “I help my parents by drawing water from the well, feeding the pigs, and other things.  I’m too busy to play with my friends and my parents get angry when I do.”
